Mark Merrill, who dedicated his life to this community, had a love for sports, and a passion for mentoring our youth, has passed away. Whether on the field, the court, or simply being present in the neighborhood, Boogie was more than just a local coach. He was a leader for our young people, a role model for our young people, and a true friend to so many!! All of his life, he demonstrated what it meant to give back, to lift others up, and to love his community.

From coaching in DLS or organizing community events so kids could play sports, he never missed a chance to make a difference in the lives of young people. Our community is stronger because of the work that Mark Merrill put in. His legacy will live on in every DLS game played and every Fitzgerald High School athletic event played in the future. He had a true love for this community and the people in it.

While his life insurance covered part of the costs, there is still a remaining balance we need help with to ensure he receives the proper burial he deserves.
