Mi nombre es Karla Gómez, soy originaria de Nicaragua y madre de Luciana, una niña de 3 años llena de energía y ganas de vivir. Desde su nacimiento, todo parecía ir bien, sin complicaciones ni problemas de salud, hasta que, poco antes de cumplir los 3 años, comenzó a presentar moretones en sus piernas sin motivo aparente.

Después de varios estudios médicos, recibimos un diagnóstico que cambió nuestras vidas por completo: aplasia medular severa. Esta condición significa que su médula ósea ha dejado de producir las células sanguíneas necesarias para su cuerpo, afectando su sistema inmune, el transporte de oxígeno y su capacidad de controlar hemorragias.

Desde julio de 2024, Luciana ha tenido que estar hospitalizada en múltiples ocasiones por infecciones, fiebre y sangrados. Actualmente, depende de transfusiones de sangre y plaquetas para mantenerse estable, pero esto no es una solución a largo plazo. La única opción para salvar su vida es un trasplante de médula ósea.

Los médicos han recomendado que el procedimiento se realice en un centro especializado donde Luciana pueda recibir la atención que necesita. Sin embargo, el costo total del tratamiento, incluyendo hospitalización, medicamentos y seguimiento, asciende a 150 mil dólares, una cantidad imposible de cubrir por nuestra cuenta.

My name is Karla Gómez. I am from Nicaragua and the mother of Luciana, a joyful and energetic 3-year-old girl. Since birth, she had no health complications, and everything seemed to be going well. However, shortly before turning three, she started developing unexplained bruises on her legs.

After several medical tests, we received a diagnosis that changed our lives completely: severe aplastic anemia. This condition means that her bone marrow has stopped producing the blood cells her body needs, affecting her immune system, oxygen transport, and ability to control bleeding.

Since July 2024, Luciana has been hospitalized multiple times due to infections, fever, and bleeding episodes. She currently relies on blood and platelet transfusions to stay stable, but this is not a long-term solution. The only chance to save her life is a bone marrow transplant.

Doctors have recommended that the procedure be done at a specialized center where Luciana can receive the care she needs. However, the total cost of the treatment, including hospitalization, medication, and follow-up care, is $150,000—an amount we cannot afford on our own.
