As if spending 5 years in the shelter kennels was not enough, Kenzo has now become seriously ill. We so hope that his life does not come to an end, before he has at least got to known life in a loving home...

One Saturday, his one weekly walk quickly turned into a frightening emergency, when his caretakers and volunteers witnessed his abdomen suddenly becoming swollen with a huge amount of liquid.

Almost overnight, Kenzo looked much larger than usually, and his hanging belly was a shock for everyone who knows and loves him.

He was rushed to SOS Malaga Hospital, and has since undergone extensive diagnostic testing… Blood tests & appointments with specialists showed us that there is something wrong with the liver - liver issues are very serious.... Kenzo is also positive for leishmania, which in most cases is very well manageable and does not affect the dogs life, but in Kenzo's case, his leishmania is not helping the liver situation.

Sadly the specialists were not able to determine the real cause of Kenzo's body filling up with massive fluids at that point, and he kept returning to the hospital. Then we reached a point, where the doctors said we will need to make a TAC scan and potentially a biopsia of the liver to see if maybe we're dealing with fibrosis....

Kenzo has already now been through the TAC scan in Bluecare hospital and we are holding our breath waiting for the results, still hopeful that he can recover and still has a chance for a life.

His biopsia operation appointment is scheduled for Thursday 4th of June. Sadly with so many emergencies in the last months, we have reached the limit of 6.000euros debt in SOS Malaga and 2.500euros in Bluecare, and no more procedures are available for our animals until we are able to cover some parts of the costs....

We already have the next dog, Drago, in need of help from SOS Hospital, but we just cannot pay all these invoices anymore. Even though we have discounts from the clinic, the costs are still very high, and we depend completely on donations.

To continue Kenzo's diagnosis and treatment, and give him the best chance of recovery, we are fundraising for:

* €1,000 – Veterinary invoices already incurred at SOS Veterinary Hospital for specialist consultations and diagnostic procedures

* €800 – A CT scan, which is the next critical step to better understand the cause of Kenzo’s liver disease

* €600 – A possible liver biopsy surgery if the CT scan does not provide conclusive answers

Total fundraising goal: €2,400

It is a lot of money, but together we can collect it bit by bit - first of all for Kenzo, but also for the other animals in our care who are waiting for specialist veterinary help, that we cannot offer right now, because the debts are too high…
