Hi everyone,

My name is Dakota Marchington, and I’m fundraising for my incredible service dog, Keilani, and to help prepare for a future prospect as her working career comes to an early end.

Keilani is a 2-year-old Golden Retriever who has been my partner, my lifeline, and my daily support through the challenges of POTS, CPTSD, anxiety, cardiac, mobility, and other issues. She’s trained to assist with critical tasks that help me stay safe and independent every single day.

Recently, Keilani was diagnosed with hip dysplasia, a painful and progressive joint condition that affects her ability to move comfortably and safely. Despite how young she is, her hips are already showing instability, and surgery is needed to give her a pain-free life and preserve her mobility long-term.

You may still see Keilani by my side in public, working, and I want to be transparent about that. Right now, she’s still able to perform her trained tasks and is not showing signs of pain, but that’s because we’re carefully managing her activity with the help of our vet. She’s on supplements, short walks, and controlled exercise. Her career isn’t over yet, but it’s coming sooner than we hoped.

That’s why I’m now facing two major needs at once:

• Helping Keilani through surgery and recovery

• Preparing for a new service dog prospect to take over when it’s time for her to retire

What we’re raising funds for:

• Keilani’s hip surgery and follow-up care

• Rehabilitation and joint support

• Costs to begin raising and training a new service dog, including:

 • A quality puppy prospect from breeders who do all health checks and certifications and do early neurological testing

 • Vet care and vaccines

 • Basic gear and training supplies

 • Future training

Keilani does have pet insurance, which we’re incredibly grateful for. It will help with part of the surgery, but unfortunately, it won’t cover everything, especially the ongoing rehab, follow-up care, and the start of a new service dog journey.
