My brother, Garry, has been going through successive crises. He was the live-in caregiver for an elderly woman until she passed away, making his housing situation precarious. He was hit head-on by another driver recently, totaling his car in an accident that God blessed him and the other driver to survive. He was laid off from his job later the same week.

Even as Garry has been pushing through this season of pain on multiple fronts, he has consistently reached out to pour encouragement and inspiration into others. This is a moment when we can unite to bless Garry and our own lives by “pounding” him with essential life support during this season of dire need.

“Pounding” is an old school term that refers to the ways community members often came together to support someone in dire need by each contributing a pound of some foodstuff, a household item, or some money. Each person who provided a little something was making an invaluable contribution to a big—sometimes lifesaving—cumulative impact on the recipient.

Garry needs a pounding with this kind of Community Love now to cover rent, food, essential household items, transportation, and other basic needs as he takes transformative actions to rise above his current crises.
