Update: Frank passed peacefully this morning after a three week stay in hospice. While obviously sad, we have been moved by the outpouring of support from family and friends. Thank you to all for your thoughts, prayers, and donations… it has helped bring comfort, and remind us just how loved my dad was!

For those that haven’t heard, our loving father Frank Dente was unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage IV kidney cancer on June 13th and has been given roughly 2 months to live. Frank is a very loving man, veteran, proud grandfather of three, and most importantly a man of deep faith. Historically a very active, fit, and healthy man, this diagnosis caught Frank and our entire family off guard.

After two days in the ER, Frank entered hospice last Wednesday, where the primary focus was getting his searing back pain under control (unfortunately the cancer has spread to his spine). While general pain killers help, subtle movements such as repositioning himself in bed can easily trigger sharp pain best treated by round-the-clock on-staff nurses.

Unfortunately, he has been given five days to transition out of his existing hospice facility into a long-term care facility where he can receive the 24-hour care needed to maintain his comfort. While hospice services such as medication and nursing visits will remain covered, the substantial cost to stay at the facility itself will not.

This is where we are asking for your help. Your donation of any size will greatly help defray these additional medical and end-of-life planning expenses, providing Frank the peace of mind knowing he will be able to spend his remaining days comfortable and well taken care of.
