Daelos M. spends her days in San Mateo, holding onto hope and a dream of beauty in the midst of struggle. She told us her name means “a beautiful evening in the autumn.”

Her greatest wish? A bag of vegetable seeds — so she can start an indoor garden. To Daelos, a garden means peace, care, and purpose. It's a way to create life where there has been loss.

When we met her, she was kind, bright, and thankful as she smiled over something as simple as a bottle of water. What she needs now is the chance to grow something of her own.
