Our baby Mosquito needs emergency medical care and we need help covering costs.
On May 30th, we took Mosquito in to her primary care because she was lethargic and seemed anemic. Her doctor found that she was running on almost no red blood cells. For reference, a normal RBC is 30%, a cause for concern is 18%, and she had only 6%. She was rushed to the emergency vet to have a blood transfusion and to be put on antibiotics. She was brought home and seemed to be doing better, but after a follow-up, she is not responding to the meds. She was taken back to the emergency vet for another blood transfusion and needs extensive tests to figure out the issue. The most recent update is that she isn't making red blood cells, which could indicate a bigger issue with her bone marrow.
Her dad and I are two trans/queer educators and environmental stewards in Western North Carolina. We've had to use up savings he set aside for gender-affirming surgery, which feels like a gut punch after he was just able to book a consultation.
We found Mosquito and her brothers outside a week after Hurricane Helene, the moment when so many of us dealt with immense loss and equally immense community support. We've been able to get through the past week knowing that when it gets bad, we can rely on you all.
$4,000 would cover the most recent costs of a blood transfusion, the infectious disease panel, the hospitalization, and abdominal scans. Anything is helpful, and thank you all.
