On Saturday, April 22, 2017, our AFSA Middle School Potato Memes recieved an invitation to the Destination Imagination Global Finals in Knoxville, TN. This is an amazing honor at the end of hundreds (literally hundreds) of hours of hard work. Now, we need your help to get there!

This is our school's first year participating in this amazing STEAM program. We started this year with 6 students, 5th and 6th graders, one teacher and a handful of parents that had no idea what we were getting into. We met once a week for an hour, but quickly realized that the students loved this program and needed more time to perfect their project. Suddenly, we were practicing 2 days a week for 2 hours and meeting at school on Saturdays to build, create and problem solve.

In March, we went to our regional competition with a team goal of trying our hardest and learning what we could do to make it to the state competition next year. We were all shocked when we were announced as the Regional Champions! We were going to the state tournament!

Suddenly, we knew we had a shot, a long shot, at making it to Global Finals. We continued to practice after school for 2 hours - 2 days a week. We moved our build to a team member's garage and spent the next 4 Saturdays and Sundays working to revise, rebuild and up our game for the state tournament.

On April 22, 2017 we went to the state tournament! We had put our heart and soul into the build and were ready to perform. We watched a few of the other teams and were amazed at what we had to learn for next year. We were just excited to be there. It really was an amazing experience.

After a long day, a dance party with all of our new D.I. friends, and weeks of work we heard our name called as the 3rd place finishers and were offered a spot at the Global Finals! It was an amazing moment for team members, teachers and families!

This year's Global Finals are in Knoxville, TN on May 23-28. In order to make it there we need your help! Please consider donating whatever you can to make this dream come true for these amazing kiddos!  
Any donations received after that date will go to help us on our journey to the 2018 Global Finals.
