Help MCB get to the Fleadh

Hi folks,

The Melbourne Céilí Band is aiming to go to Ireland in August 2023 to compete at the prestigious céilí band competition at the Fleadh Cheoil in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. The mission - represent Melbourne as a world-class city for Irish music.

The céilí band competition is the highlight of the Fleadh Cheoil with bands travelling from all over Ireland and worldwide. The Melbourne Céilí Band would be travelling the furthest distance any band has ever journeyed to enter the competition - all the way from Australia to Ireland.

To get there, we'll need your help. Flights are expensive and musicianship is not known to be very financially lucrative. We are aiming to raise enough money to fly all 10 members of the Melbourne Ceili Band to Ireland. To support this venture, we are seeking funding to raise the following:

25,000AUD - This will cover return flights to Ireland for the ten members of the band. The pricing of these flights has been confirmed by Emerald Travel.

10,000AUD - Room and board for ten band members. Note we are hoping to raise this portion of the funds by hosting fundraising events before we travel (ceilis, concerts and sessions).

The Melbourne Céilí Band highlights the strong history of Irish music and culture in Melbourne. It pays tribute to those who cultivated and preserved this music like the Fitzgerald brothers, the Moran family and many more who paved the way for Irish music in Melbourne. What these pioneers started over 60 years ago is a true testament to their dedication to Irish culture and their impact is clear by the many musicians who now play Irish music in Melbourne. The Melbourne Irish music scene is not only alive and well, but has evolved into a special community with its own unique regional sound. The band will continue to evolve, foster and promote Irish culture by hosting céilís in Victoria for the years to come.
