The Eaton Armory, built in 1911, is over 100 years old. It housed an Ohio National Guard unit until they relocated in 2011. The building was then sold in auction to a private citizen and has remained unused ever since. This castle-style building is an iconic cornerstone in the city of Eaton and Preble County. It has seen generations of Preble County residents serve in the guard until its closing.
Darkhold Games is a local, family-owned, business that has acquired the Armory. We are working on repairing and maintaining the building to preserve the history for the community. It's our intention for the community to be able to access and enjoy the Armory again. Part of this entails moving our shop into the building and allowing the community to come into the play games with their families, friends, and others. We do plan to institute some programs for local veterans once the facility is ready.
We have been doing a lot of the work ourselves. However, there are some repairs that need immediate attention. One of these is a need to replace the roof which has begun to leak in several places. It has been quoted around $100,000.00. The second thing is ADA access for the second floor which has been quoted as $25,00.00 – 30,000.00. The third is to replace the tile on drill which will be around $15,000.00 in materials. There are other projects we are working on, but these are the top needs to stop the degradation of the building and allow the community full access.
The Eaton Armory needs your help. If you care about this local landmark or just want to help with the repairs any donations would be appreciated.
