Help Us Get Skates and Activities For Young People

Hello! We are WatchMyWheels, we are Roller Skating enthusiasts, our mission is to create a skate friendly environment where-ever is possible for us to do so throughout the year and also capture skating visually in its rawest and artistic form, as the government insisted that outside activities were allowed to partake during Lockdown we were able to create a Roller Skate community within our area using all the resources we had and able to have access to.

Our group is very mixed in terms of diversity and backgrounds, for most Roller Skating has been very therapeutic and also an intervention from gang culture, Current times has made us realise the millennial generation are suffering a lot with their mental health and well being due to precipitating factors such as stress,  pressure from society and also peer groups, a majority of young people currently have a certain mindset that they have to live a certain life style and obtain certain goals at a unrealistic young age. They naturally are overworking themselves and not leaving any time to ground themselves due to other distractions like social media.

 We believe that participating in activities outside of education, social media and their devices, you are able to potentially gain bonds and relationships that physically that you will appreciate later on in life building memories and connections you can look back to. We also find physical communication skills are very distant within millennials due to less interaction in real life because of the virtual world,  whether you are skating within a group or 1-1 you are able to gain the skill of healthy physical communication and how to talk and address people you respect, they are then enabling themselves to question and learn from others which is what you will be doing in all ways of adult life.

Unfortunately as the year has been chaotic financially for a few of our young people some of them have been forced to share skates, we would like to provide a free skate hire for the young people that do arrive to our skate meet ups with their friends that do not own a pair of skates. During the year as our community grew stronger in the area we were able to put on Roller Skate sports day and also other entertaining events in the area as we have plenty ideas drawn up, we would like to purchase more equipment and maintain the items we have in our keep, by the end of 2021 our goal is to solidify the skate community we have and help support other areas in London and Greater London.
