My mom and I have struggled with disabilities and living in poverty for years. This past winter was especially hard for us. We used up our HEAP payments just trying to keep our home warm, but the rising prices and cold temperatures meant we were without heat for over a month. The cold caused our pipes to burst, and delays from our plumber left us without water for three and a half months. Being in poverty has made it even harder to get help—sometimes people don’t want to come into our home, and it’s heartbreaking how cruel the world can feel when you’re already struggling.

We use propane for heating, cooking, and hot water. Right now, we’re finally about to get our water back on, but we won’t be able to shower with warm water until we can afford propane. Our HEAP payments have been used up and barely cover half a tank. I’m only 18 years old, but I’m doing everything I can to keep my mom and me stable. We’ve been struggling so hard mentally and emotionally, and it would mean the world for anyone to give their support so we can be happy too.

Any amount of money that can be put towards getting us propane to help us get warm water and the ability to cook is greatly appreciated. No matter how small an act of kindness can be, it can change someone’s life. Thank you for reading our story and for any support you can give.
