Help us get our amazing friend back on her bike
Can you imagine getting hit by a car and a week to the day of your accident later have your bikes stolen from your home?
My name is Josh and I've started this gofundme to help our incredibly strong, resilient, kind and ultimately stubborn friend.
This is our friend Alice. Over the course of the last two years Alice has been living in Toronto on a working holiday visa. That time is slowly coming to its natural end but we would love for her to be able to stay here and continue on her journey.
Alice has gone through a series of considerable changes in the last few months and years which unfortunately came to a head these past two weeks.
Moving to Canada just before the pandemic posed multiple challenges, which millions of people across the globe had to adapt and come to terms with. During her time she developed a love for the strong sense of community in Canada, that she felt that she want to continue with by taking on a series of personal challenges, allowing her space to grow. In true Alice fashion she began to prepare for an epic 1900 mile bike ride from Vancouver, CA down to Tijuana, MX. This was going to be ultimate trip of self discovery, recovery and care. Due to the ongoing pandemic, extreme temperatures and imminent wildfires the trip had to be curtailed and revised.
After setting her sights on a more easily accessible trip from Toronto to New Brunswick via New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine, a series of exceptional bad luck and misfortune took place. Around the beginning of August, whilst cycling to hand in permanent residency documents, Alice was struck by a car leaving her with head trauma related injuries including a partial orbital bone fracture, stitches in her head and a broken nose. This has left her seriously shaken and thrown so many parts of her life into contention. She was preparing for her last week of work before embarking on her trip.
Yesterday on August 17th another stroke of bad luck occurred. During the evening both of her bicycles were stolen from her garage, totalling to thousands of dollars worth of loss. She had recently purchased her Surly ready for her international trip only for it to be taken away from her and causing even more stress and pain.
Alice is an incredible woman; selfless, loving, caring and she deserves nothing more than to be happy and secure at this particularly difficult time. She would never admit any of this and we already know whilst writing this that she believes there are far more people deserving of these funds than her. She will likely be annoyed that a group of us have conspired to get this whole process in motion! We want nothing more for her than to to be able to achieve the goals that she has set, but we also believe that despite what she says, that she could really do with all the love and support along the way.
We really appreciate any donation that you can provide and thank you for taking the time to read this.
