Help us get Michael's needed cancer treatment

Hi Everyone,

We need your support in raising funds to help my partner and best friend Michael Gozan in his fight against cancer. About 21 months ago, at just 46 years old, Michael was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that had already affected multiple parts of his body and was told he had 18 months to live. Since then he has gone through several rounds of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted radiation, and started taking supplements and made drastic diet changes to support these treatments. Due to the cancer he suffered a series of 8 compression fractures in his spine, leaving him immobilized for several months and a long road to recovery with physical therapy. Throughout Michael has shown tremendous strength, resilience and a will to live.

Recently, we received the bad news that his latest treatment had stopped working and the cancer had grown. While this was scary, it was also a call to action as this was the last covered treatment available and he doesn't currently qualify for clinical trials. But there are still good options. We had researched and contacted the Williams Cancer Institute last year and knew that the cutting-edge work they were doing on intratumoral ablation and intratumoral immunotherapy injections could be the treatment that turns the corner in Michael’s fight against cancer– and Dr. Williams is widely recognized as the leader in this field. Unfortunately these procedures are not covered by insurance and require us to travel to Mexico for a week at a time.

We have exhausted all of our savings/resources to pay for the first treatment session which he just completed this week, (all went really well) but he needs to do at least 2 more in order for the cumulative effects of the treatment to stand its best chance of working. Our goal is to raise $88,000 ($44,000 per treatment, including hospital and travel costs) ASAP for the next two treatments later this month. I know it's a lot of money--out of pocket cancer treatment is crazy expensive on top of everything else we are dealing with!

This has been a very challenging time for me and all of his family, and it’s not easy to ask for help. It has affected my ability to work full time and I'm close to exhausting my leave to care for him at home and accompany him to Mexico. More than anything I want to see Michael stand a real chance of kicking this awful disease and this treatment stands a great chance of doing that. It takes a village and this village needs all of you! Please know that no donation is too small- it will all add up.
