Earlier this week, police were called to a property following concerns about the circumstances there. When officers attended, neighbours checked on the welfare of the three dogs living at the address and what they found told its own story.

The house had been stripped of its furnishings, its life, and its soul. A house that had clearly once been a home full of love. Nobody knew where the owner was, or whether they were coming back at all.

The dogs had been left confined in separate areas during extremely hot weather. One outside. Two shut inside different rooms. Alone, without food or water, and surrounded by their own filth.

Neighbours stepped in without hesitation providing food and fresh water while working to understand the situation. After police attended, the matter was handed to the RSPCA. Both organisations became involved, but due to the legal complexities surrounding the property, its ownership, and responsibility for the dogs, immediate intervention was limited.

So the community did what communities do. They kept showing up. Every single day. Feeding, walking, and checking on the dogs, giving every spare minute they had to make sure the girls were safe.

This is the story of Mia and Mali.

The third dog has now been placed somewhere safe with someone who understands his needs. But these two girls are still waiting.

Mia and Mali are Czech German Shepherds, loyal, intelligent, and devoted by nature and deserve so much better than what they have been through.

They have two owners, Ieva and Tomas.

After their relationship broke down over a year ago, Ieva was forced to relocate urgently for her own safety to Latvia, believing the dogs would be cared for in the UK before being transported out to join her as she started a new life. What she didn't know was that Tomas had been served an eviction notice, the house had fallen into disarray, the dogs were in a condition far removed from how she had left them and the chances of her ever seeing them again were becoming increasingly unlikely.

I reached out to Ieva to make her aware of the situation. She is now in contact with us, devastated and distraught, but doing everything she can to coordinate the girls' care from abroad. She wants them home. And we are doing everything we can to make that happen.

Ieva has arranged for Mia and Mali to be welcomed into two loving homes in Latvia, one with Ieva herself and her 9 year old daughter and one with her mother and father. The girls will be close, cared for, and surrounded by the people they know as family.

We have until this Friday (3rd July).

The property is subject to a bailiff eviction. If Mia and Mali are still there when bailiffs arrive, they will be removed and placed into the system and we cannot guarantee their safety from that point.

We are working urgently to get them into safe boarding before Friday.

Every hour counts.

This will take time and here's why.

We are unsure of Mia and Mali's vaccination status. Before they legally enter Latvia, they require a full course of vaccinations including rabies, which under EU regulations requires a mandatory 21 day window before travel can commence.

Even if they are vaccinated this week, they cannot legally enter Latvia until late July at the earliest.

To make it possible, Mia and Mali need:

- Safe temporary boarding while arrangements are made (approx. 6 weeks)
- Full veterinary examinations and any treatment required
- Vaccinations, health certification, and travel documents
- Food, supplies, and daily care
- Safe transport to Latvia

We want to be honest with you. If reuniting them with Ieva turns out to be impossible, whether due to veterinary requirements, logistics, or finances, every single penny raised will go towards their ongoing care and finding them a permanent, loving home here in the UK.

One thing I can promise you: they will not be let down by us.

What has unfolded over the past 72 hours has been a community effort in the truest sense. Neighbours gave their time every single day. Strangers became advocates for two dogs they'd never met because they simply couldn't walk away.

Now we're asking you to be part of it too.

Every donation goes directly towards boarding, veterinary care, travel, and the documentation needed to bring Mia and Mali home. If donating isn't possible right now, sharing this page costs nothing and could make all the difference.

Should there be any surplus funds remaining once Mia and Mali are safe, every penny will be donated to between a local animal welfare and homelessness charity. Because every life in this story matters.

They've already waited long enough. Let's get them home.
