Help Us Get Home: A Fresh Start for Our Family of Four

After five years of living in Canada, we’ve made the big decision to move back to South Africa and we need your help to make it possible

We are a young family of four 4️⃣ two parents, two little ones ‍‍‍ and we’re planning a full relocation to give our children a life filled with connection, culture, and the kind of joy we know only home can offer.

This isn’t a decision we’ve made lightly. Canada has taught us a lot, but we’ve struggled deeply with the lack of connection, the isolation, and the difficulty of raising small children in a place that doesn’t feel like home. Things have also not aligned for us with Permanent Residency and Financially speaking we were never in a good place.

We’ve come to believe that returning to South Africa to sunshine, open spaces, family, and a sense of belonging is the best next step for our children and for us.

Why We’re Asking for Help

If we had the savings, we wouldn’t be asking that’s just the truth. Life hasn’t worked out in a way that allowed us to build a financial cushion. We’ve always tried to make it on our own, and asking for help like this isn’t easy for us. It’s not in our nature. But we’ve come to a point where we know we can’t do this alone and so with a humble heart, we’re reaching out.

This fundraiser will help us cover some cost of relocating including an added hurdle we’re facing:

In 2021, my South African passport was stolen. In order to return home, I now have to apply for an emergency travel document, which I must collect in person from the South African consulate in Toronto. That means we’ll need to take a separate domestic trip before we can even begin our journey back to SA. I have sent in my application for my new passport a while back but it will not be back in time for us to be able to head back home. ( it could take 12+ months )

What Your Support Will Help Cover:

• ✈️ Flights to South Africa for 2 adults + 2 children

• Emergency travel document + trip to Toronto (flights, hotel, meals, transport)

• Temporary housing and basic living expenses in SA for our first few months

• Initial setup (beds, essentials for the kids)

• Transportation, admin fees, baggage costs, and other transition-related expenses
