Help us get flights for this family to Canada

Hi, My name is Stephanie Fast and I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, with my husband Tim, and son Lucious. When we heard of the War in Ukraine it broke our hearts. It’s especially close to me as I am of Ukrainian decent and have family that are still living in Ukraine. We wanted to do something to help. We decided to open our home to a family feeling the war. We posted our home on UkraineTakeShelter and we were contacted by a family of 3 seeking refuge to Canada. Eleonora, her mother Helen, and sister Sofiia. We have been in contact with them through the process of getting their Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) and we’re so happy that as of May 17th they have it! We’ve been trying different charitable organizations to help fund their flights to Winnipeg to no avail. As is understandable, these organizations are overwhelmed. We have decided to fundraise ourselves in hopes of getting them here as soon as possible.

Here is what Eleonora had to say about their experience so far:

We are a family from Ukraine. My mother, sister and I lived in Chernihiv, a small town in the north of Ukraine. The border with Russia and Belarus was 50 km from the city, so on the first day of the war on February 24, there were hostilities in our city. On the second day of the war, a rocket hit near our house, we were forced to move to a village in the same area. On March 4, it was necessary to flee from there because Russian soldiers entered this village and drove people out of their homes. We ran across the field, because at that moment the roads were already mined and we had no other option. First we went through Ukraine to cross the border. Near Kyiv, my mother's friend helped us, we went with her by car. We crossed the Romanian border in the region of western Ukraine, then we went by train to Germany. My stepsister lives in Stuttgart, so we are here now.

Our father stayed in Chernigov. He is 53, he can no longer go to war, but he tries to help the army, does charity work, helps clean up and rebuild the city

We will be using any and all funds to pay for their flights here and any extra we will give directly to them. They are traveling with only what they can carry in carry-on. Which means when they get here, they will need clothes, shoes/sandals, personal care items, etc. and this will go towards those needs.
