Help Us Get Critical Imaging for Our Beloved Cat, Calsifer (“Cal”)
Hi everyone,
This is our sweet boy, Calsifer — or “Cal” as we lovingly call him. He has been my soul cat for nearly a decade and is about to turn 10 this month. He is truly one of a kind — loving, spunky, sassy, and endlessly affectionate. He loves food (but won’t touch treats!), rolling on warm pavement outside, sunbathing, bugging his sister and curling up to cuddle. He has been by my side through so many chapters of life.
A few nights ago, Cal had two sudden neurological episodes. His head tilted to the right, he began circling, and had jerking movements. Afterward, he was extremely wobbly, disoriented, and bumping into things. His eyes were shifting back and forth, and he struggled to keep his balance. Each episode lasted about a minute, but they felt like forever. We rushed him to the emergency vet immediately. His bloodwork thankfully came back normal, but we were told the episodes could be caused by something serious such as a brain tumor, vestibular disease, or an inner ear condition. The only way to know for sure is advanced imaging (an MRI/CT scan) with a veterinary neurologist. He has been started on steroids to help reduce any potential inflammation or swelling, but he is still experiencing head tilt and balance issues. We need imaging as soon as possible to understand what we are facing and to ensure he is not suffering.
The cost of seeing a neurologist and getting advanced imaging is still far beyond what we can manage right now. My husband’s job recently ended, and I am 22 weeks pregnant with our first baby, working part-time while we search for new employment. We used our entire savings to cover the emergency visit and medications.
Donations will help cover the costs to get the answers we need to know what to do going forward. Asking for help is incredibly hard, but Cal is family. He has given us nearly 10 years of unconditional love, comfort, and joy. We just want to give him the chance to be properly diagnosed and treated so he can continue to live a happy, comfortable life. If you are able to donate, share, or keep Cal in your thoughts, we are deeply grateful. Every bit helps more than you know. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for caring about our sweet boy.
With gratitude,
Bronwyn and Kainoa Tu’ua
