Hello my name is Heidi, I am a district nurse for the NHS. After seeing the power of community throughout the pandemic It’s with a very sad heart I am here pleading for your help to help me get my partner of 24 years home and healthy.

My partner Brian who is such a kind, hard working and loving partner, father and grandfather, loved by so many has been taken deathly Ill whist we was enjoying a well needed holiday after working throughout the entirety off the pandemic. He was taken into hospital in the Dominican Republic on the 12th of April with phenomena and duodenal ulcer which had burst and was bleeding internally. Brian has a very rare blood type of O negative which is extremely hard to come by in the Dominican with only 3% of the population having that blood type. After 5 blood transfusion there is no blood left and with his HB level currently sitting at 6.5 when is should be 15 for a male. It is a very dangerous and scary position to be in as the new blood didn’t have an affect due to the continual internal bleeding. He has since been operated on which has suppressed the bleed however this now means that he can not be moved incase the bleeding starts again and as there is none of his blood available he would bleed to death as they wouldn’t be able to replace what he has lost.

The reason I am reaching out to all and any who may be able help us is due to the fact that our holiday insurance does not cover the medical care Brian is currently undergoing. We have been getting the same annual travel insurance for many years and are frequent visitors of the Dominic republic which was always covered under the plan we got but much to our surprise and horror once he was admitted to hospital we discovered that the Dominican Republic had been removed from the policy due to Covid. I know full well this is my responsibility to have checked this before we flew and I couldn’t feel more stupid that i didn’t. With our current bill with the hospital standing at $67,000 US dollars equating to £51,499 English pound. As much as I love my job and helping others, sadly on a nurses wage we simply do not have the finances to cover this and continue to give Brian the care and resources he requires to source the blood he so desperately needs.

We couldn’t be more greatful for the help and support we have received so far and we would be internally greatful for any donations moving forward no matter how big or small to insure we can get Brain Stable enough to come home. Thank you in advance, Heidi and Brian x
