Dear Friends and Family,
We hope this message finds you healthy and well! We’ll get right to it. Our amazing friends from Camp Krem have been kind enough to give twenty-one scholarships to our group of young adults with disability so they can attend camp this summer. After more than two years of Covid and a devastating fire in 2020 that burned the original camp to the ground, our group has been waiting for this moment to arrive. Camp Krem has risen from the ashes and is now continuing its mission in a new location near Yosemite as they rebuild the old campsite. Camp is open ... now all our campers need is help to get there!
To get our crew to camp, we must fly them to California round trip from Chicago. The scholarships cover everything at camp, but airfare, meals, and transportation to and from the airport are expensive. That’s where you come in!
Your donation will go toward our group’s airfare, a shuttle bus to the mountains from the airport, and food the day we arrive, and the day we depart. We have five volunteer chaperones who will also attend and ensure our campers are safe and having fun. So we want to cover chaperone non-camp expenses as well. If you are able, please make a donation and/or share our page with others who can help. We’ve been doing this trip for many years and would love to continue after this long three-year break. It is a great gift to our campers and their parents and caregivers.
Camp Krem’s mission is simple: they provide a beautiful space in the mountains for exceptional people to be themselves while giving respite to parents who rarely get it but so desperately need and deserve it. In our students’ cases, many have been raised by single mothers their whole lives. Camp is when these kids get to be with their friends in a safe environment while their mothers get a chance to recharge and restore. One of our moms describes Camp Krem as a “Godsend.” Any parent who has raised a child with a disability would agree with this assessment of camp. It’s a huge win for the camper and the caregiver as well.
Thanks for checking out our page and for helping us reach our goal. Give what you can. Share with others. Most of all, enjoy all the blessings of life wherever you find them!
Warmest regards,
Sean and the Camp Krem crew
