On Friday, after finishing my shift at work, I went to start my car and it turned on for a moment before shutting off completely. When I tried again, it would only crank but wouldn’t start. I initially thought it was the battery, but after paying for a tow and having it checked, that wasn’t the issue. I had to tow the car to the dealer, and as of now, they still haven’t been able to pinpoint the problem. The uncertainty and mounting costs have been overwhelming, especially as a single mom trying to keep everything together for my family.

Without my car, our daily routine has been turned upside down. My daughters go to school in Garden Grove—one is a senior and the other is in 6th grade—and I work in Huntington Beach. For the past two days, I’ve spent a significant amount on Uber rides just to get us where we need to go, and I’ve had to rent a car, which has already cost much more than I can afford. With rent due soon and no funds left, I’m worried about how I’ll keep up. My car is our only form of transportation, and without it, I risk losing my job and my daughters risk missing school, especially with graduation coming up for my oldest.
