On our way home from work, my four children (6,4,2, 7months) and I were driving 45 mph down Highway 2 when a woman made a sudden left-hand turn directly in front of us. The impact flung us into another car. In an instant, our lives were turned upside down.

We are incredibly grateful to be alive and want to express our thanks to everybody who stepped up and helped me and my four children get out of my car and us into a safe spot. We are all bruised, sore, and shaken, but the hospital confirmed that we will recover physically. Emotionally, however, my children are now scared to even get into another vehicle.

This was our only car, and it’s now totaled. Unfortunately, the woman who hit us did not have insurance and I only carried liability insurance, which means nothing is covered since I wasn’t at fault. The woman who hit us was cited for failing to yield, but in order to receive anything for my car, car seats, and the emotional trauma we’ve suffered, I would have to sue — and that process costs money I simply don’t have.

We have no emergency fund, no backup vehicle, no down payment, and no other transportation. I am a parent just trying to keep life stable for my kids, and right now, without a car, even basic needs like getting to work, school, and medical appointments are a struggle.
