On Sunday July 20th my dad was in a serious drag racing accident, the first injuring crash he has had in his 40 year racing career. He was incredibly lucky to walk away from this with only the damage that he did, including a broken collarbone, fractured ribs & punctured lung. While this is a hard time for our family, we still have my dad and that is what is important to us all.

He will recover his bodily wounds over time, but the mental toll this has taken on him is why I am reaching out for help. You see, my dad had been helping a good friend of his build this beautiful camaro. Over the last few weeks I had seen it come together into quite an impressive drag car, and you could just feel both of their excitement each time the next goal was reached. This past weekend they went out for his buddy to take that camaro for his licensing runs, and my dad wanted to see if he finally nailed down a vibration that was driving him crazy. Like the past few weekends, they both were making passes in the car.

Unfortunately during one of my dad’s passes, the throttle got stuck & with the minimal rundown area at the track he was left with 400 feet at 111 mph to save himself and the car. Unfortunately there was no saving the car.

As any racer knows, when you let someone else drive your car there can be risks. Everyone involved knew those risks, but my dad is having a really hard time not being able to replace this car. He has offered his own drag car, but his friend doesn’t want him to give up racing. They want to keep racing, and keep racing together. My dad has been a mechanic for nearly 50 years & is fully capable of rebuilding the engine and doing any mechanical work, if we can get our hands on another 68 camaro.

The racing community my dad knows has banded together around our family through this, for which we are so grateful. But we only have one request: help us lift this burden. We don’t need money for medical bills, or income supplementation, we just want to help get another racer back out on the track.
