Help us get a new used trailer
We live in a 60 to 70 year old trailer that is slowly, and literally, falling apart around us. Last year the roof nearly cave in. My dad helped in putting the metal beam and some tin on the roof and that helped with the leaking and the giant sinking hole on the roof.
Earlier this year, the tin got blown and ripped off due to a tornado. My dad has recently suffered as stroke and can't help us put it on so the ceiling is getting worse.
There are other issues with the trailer. The floors are sinking in in some places due to age and water damage, there is mold in the one 'good' bathroom that we are constantly fighting. The master bathrooms bathtub has caved in, and is no longer usable in any fashion, and hasn't been for at least 3 years time.
The kitchen sink is unable to use a cold water line due to the age of the piping causing it the cold line to fail without our knowledge in 2018, at which point we shut it off and now only have boiling hot water available for washing dishes.
The walls in some places are crumbling due to the design of some windows that my father put in about 10 years ago were never sealed properly and thusly the drywall has begun to totally give up the ghost in a handful of places.
The electrical systems of the trailer have also begun to give way, due to our lack of knowledge and funds to keep them maintained. The central heating and air unit went out in 2016, which wasn't a big deal by itself. We simply switched over to window air conditioners, the problem is that the way the trailer is wired it is unable to handle the load of heaters during the winter. If, for example, we want to use the good shower and have a heater on it and in the master bedroom on the literal other side of the trailer it will flip the breaker to prevent overload.
On top of all this, the new range that we recently had to purchase (to replace the nearly 30 year old electric range that had given up life earlier this year) has started causing the whole power net of the house to flicker. Causing us to literally live in constant fear of the building catching fire.
Living with family is barely an option, as the money maker of the family works a very public job and is at high risk of being a vector for covid-19, while all of our family is aging to the point that if they were to catch the virus they would most likely not survive. With both sets of parents being well over their 70th birthday.
We don't actually know how much we need, but we know we've passed the point of ridiculous. Our family members are either incapable or unwilling to help, and even if they did help physically it would involve putting themselves at extreme risk to be around us. Ultimately the dream at this point would be just to afford a newer trailer, even something 30 years old would be an improvement most likely, but completely stuck otherwise, as the local housing authority has a long waiting period and we're honestly not even sure if we're safe in our own home.
So if you could find it in your hearts to help a family in need this holiday season, we would deeply appreciate it.
