  • W00T!!!! You guys DID it!!! Amazingly, incredibly, you made it possible for me to go pick up the RV this week. Thank you so, so very much!!! I am still hoping to convert the camper part to full solar eventually, but I need to research systems, what will work best for this application, etc etc. Please keep an eye on DK or my FB page - there will be RV photos posted soon! Thank you again!
  • NEWS! As amazing a deal as the 1999 Coachman would have been, I found a BETTER one - and they're holding it for me! I've got two weeks to raise the remaining funds. Can you possibly help? See pictures of the 2004 Tioga SL on hold for the kitties & me here: dailykos.com/stories/2023/7/17/2181737
  • HALFWAY THERE!!! I just added in all the paypal donations and re-donations to the March fundraiser, and we are at $4011, WOO-HOO! Thank you so much, everybody!
  • UPDATE: Oh man, guys, I found this: https://richmond.craigslist.org/rvs/d/midlothian-1998-class-30-rv-been-to-48/7642041432.html $6500, needs very minor repairs. VERY inexpensive quasi-permanent housing - please help me make it happen!
  • I'm setting the total goal at $10,000 after Gaelsdottir reminded me that I needed to budget for title, tax, and registration as well as repair materials and solar panel :-)

Hi everyone! As some of you know, I caught Covid back in February 2020, about a week before it exploded all over the news. Unfortunately, the long-term effects have been pretty brutal, and I now have a number of permanent health issues. I finally gave in and applied for disability, but according to the SSA it could be more than a year (!!!) before an adjudicator is appointed to my case.

At this point it's VERY unlikely I'll ever be able to afford a house, and even with disability, rent costs have gotten astronomical. But I have seen numerous used RVs in very good shape in the 18-30k range, and living in Virginia, an RV is actually a pretty viable option. (No 5 month winters!)

I'm hoping eventually to afford a small piece of land to go with it, but in the meantime with the help of friends I should be able to "park" it inexpensively (I have the offer of a driveway, at least!) and thus remove my single largest monthly expense, which is rent. My cats are used to an apartment which honestly is not much bigger than a decent-sized RV -- I suspect they'll make the transition pretty easily :-)

It's mortifying to be out here hat in hand, but I am hoping that with your help, I can purchase an RV as an affordable, sustainable, and long-term "house" for my small family! Thank you so much for reading this, and for any help you can give :-)

If it's easier, you can also donate via Paypal Family & Friends - just drop me a note. Thank you again!

PS: If by any chance we raise more than the purchase cost of a home with wheels, any extra funds will go to 1) registration/insurance/any needed repairs, 2) retrofitting it for solar (I would like, on whatever I can afford to get, to convert everything but the engine to electric so all systems can be run off solar), and if there's anything beyond that, 3) the "eventual bit of land" fund!
