The Story:

Anna stumbles out of a club after a night out and misses her bus to get home. As the sun rises, she makes her way through London streets and stumbles across a church, which she enters almost despite herself. In this beautiful, empty space she remembers her grandmother and the people she’s left behind and starts wondering what her life would have been like if she had never left her home.

This is a film about being caught between not losing connection with the past whilst trying to build a future and reframing the definition of home in the process. We want to explore both the grief and the joy that comes with new beginnings through the perception of a young foreigner living in London, as well as probe our relationship with tradition and community.

Sanctuary is a completely independent film, being made without public funding, so every pound we raise will go towards paying the creatives who are contributing to telling this story.

Meet the Team:

Coralie Bastiaens - Writer/Director

Coralie Bastiaens is a young French Actor, Translator and Filmmaker.

She has a BA in English and Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia and an MFA from the Stella Adler Art of Acting Studio.

Her recent acting credits include Mank (David Fincher), Sleepwalkers (Netflix), Bob Marley: One Love (Paramount) as well as international theatre tours such as The Wave (Tnt Theatre) and Tom Sawyer (Théâtre le Héron).

She produced multiple shows as Artistic Director of the Traction Theatre Company in Los Angeles, and her writing experience includes the solo show The White Rose as well as the webseries B(w)itching,

She is currently in post-production for her first short film Ce matin là.

Cristina Isgrò - Producer

Born in Milan, Cristina Isgrò is a 2023 Producing graduate of the National Film and Television School. They started their career as a social media manager and audience-builder for the Universal Music Group at the age of fifteen, then join a Milanese post-production company, Effetti Digitali Italiani as an intern. They moved to the UK to study Film Production at the University for the Creative Arts, and during their experience there they worked part-time as a cleaner and carer in a nursing home for three years. Over the course of their university journey, they discovered the passion for producing, and the desire to tell coming-of-age stories. In 2022, they interned for the acquisition team at StudioCanal UK during Cannes Film Festival and briefly worked as a script reader for HanWay Film. They are currently CEO of Weeping Willow Films and work in development at Archery Pictures.

Ula Moroz - Cinematographer

Ula Moroz is a Cinematographer and Operator. Her work ranges from short films to music videos to promotional work. She previously collaborated with companies such as Theatre Temoin,Tara Theatre and Opera Holland Park.

Last August Ula worked as a DOP on a narrative short film The Pirate directed by Ruth Carnegie. The film is a winner in the category One to Watch at Saturn Returns Film Festival. It also won Best Story award at the Festival for Drama, Film and Writing in Canada. So far The Pirate has been selected for Cinematic Belfast festival, The Children’s International Festival in Wales, Kids First! Film Festival and Woman up! Festival in Australia.

Ula has just finished shooting a new short Sail in the Wind, which is currently in post-production.
