Benji Needs Eye Surgery!

Ben came to us with cataracts six years ago.

His quality of life is good, and he has always seen well enough to get around without much trouble, but it is apparent he is losing his vision more. A visit with the vet today also reminded me that cataracts can cause swelling in the eye and other eye problems like glaucoma and retinal detachment.

Over the course of the next week or so, I will be looking at different ophthalmic veterinary specialists and deciding on the course of Benji's care.  We will likely need to explore  cataract removal surgery. That in and of itself is typically a very successful surgery, but Benji is an anesthesia risk, we were told, as he has a very narrow trachea.

Anyone who has dealt with veterinary specialists before can attest that they are expensive.  I am asking for help to pay for Benji's consultations, eye care and likely surgery.  While I do not have a specific cost just yet, once we have a few consultations, we will have a better idea.  However, we anticipate medical costs in the excess of $2,000.
