My Story
Malo e lelei, my name is Sione Sisifa from shotcaller studio and creator of LIANA for which we've just released the pilot episode (watch below).
Since the release of the pilot, we have been inundated with questions like, 'where is the next episode?', and, 'is there going to be a whole season?'.
I have been overwhelmed by the number of positive comments coming in from all over the world about how much the show has resonated with their lived experiences.
It highlights how important film / tv can be as a platform to bridge cultural gaps, affirm identity and create opportunities for diverse talent.
Support Polynesian Visibility
In Australia, Polynesian representation is largely only seen on the sporting field. Rarely are we featured in TV and films or even considered for lead roles.
You know that saying, 'we are what we see', well, there is a danger of us losing our identity if we don't push for our faces and voices to be seen and heard.
We want to broaden the possibilities outside of the sporting field by sharing our stories and experiences through LIANA.
Support Polynesian Opportunity
I had a very difficult time casting for the pilot episode - because there are next to no Polynesian actors in Australia. The simple reason? There are no opportunities for brown faces and roles.
The solution - LETS DO IT OURSELVES!
I want to create opportunities for aspiring creatives, writers, actors, directors and crew to pursue filmmaking and story telling because it is in our DNA.
We pass down our stories through the generations and we need to continue doing that or risk losing our history.
How You Can Help?
Full disclosure: The entire cost of the pilot was completely self-funded. This time around, I need help to complete episodes quicker :)
We've done the math's and this is the breakdown:
Cast Fees: $5,000
Crew Fees: $5,000
Location Rentals: $2,000
Equipment Hire: $2,000
Wardrobe / Props: $1,000
Set Design: $500
Catering: $500
Post-Production / Editing / Colouring: $5,000
Soundtrack / Licensing: $2,000
Marketing: $2,000
Total: $25,000 - this should be enough to see us through the next 2 episodes and if we receive more, it will fund more episodes.
By donating below, you’ll support a vibrant community of emerging Polynesian talent, contribute to your cultural visibility and stories, and – most importantly – become a vital part of bringing LIANA to life.
