Help my nephew finish a wheelchair accessible home
Donation protected
My nephew needs funds to finish building a wheelchair accessible home for his daughter.
My nephew Joe is one of the hardest working people I know. He would do anything for his family, and has. I do my best to help him out whenever I can. His family has reached the point where he needs more help than I am able to offer and while he is too polite to ask for help from anyone, he needs it and I want to see that he gets that help.
Three years ago, Joe’s daughter Elisha suffered an accident that robbed her of her mobility and feeling in her legs and arms. After months of hospitalization, healthcare experts working diligently with Elisha were able to help her regain limited motion in her limbs. She now uses a motorized wheelchair but requires someone to assist her full time. Joe’s wife Gina has taken on the role of her primary caregiver. She spends her days and nights tirelessly assisting her daughter to perform functions that you and I take for granted. Caring for her daughter is a full time job.
Joe did his best to modify the home they are currently living in to accommodate his daughter’s wheelchair but there is only so much he could do. They turned the living room into her bedroom (it was the only space large enough to accommodate her medical equipment). Unfortunately, the rest of the house is off limits to her as they were unable to make a lot of spaces accessible by wheelchair.
These limiting factors took Joe on a mission to make things better for his family. He wants his daughter to be able to live in a comfortable, fully wheelchair accessible space. His dream is to give his daughter a space where she can make use of the whole house, where no area is off limits to her. Joe started working on house designs that would not simply accommodate a wheelchair but make it fully accessible, easy to navigate spaces and fit the needs of his family.
Joe secured a piece of land to build this home for his family. I am helping him as much as I can through every step of the building process, from home design, to site visits with contractors, clearing and leveling the lot, and anything else I can.
Joe earns the sole income for his family. He is quickly learning that supporting Elisha’s needs, the family household needs, and building expenses are becoming too much. His savings are disappearing quickly and he is worried that he won’t be able to finish building the house that he has worked so hard to design and get permits for. At this point, he just wants to be able to get the home to a stage where it is possible for his family to move in, be warm and safe and to allow Elisha to access all the spaces in her wheelchair.
After much thought and discussion, I have made the decision to reach out to my friends, extended family, and the public to ensure that my nephew’s family can get back on their feet and have enough to complete a fully wheelchair accessible house for his daughter. All funds collected will go directly to my nephew to help them with building costs. I simply ask that all of you help spread the word, share and post if you are able. My family and I will forever be grateful for your help, and assistance. We cannot financially do this on our own, and seeing my nephew’s daughter confined to the only accessible space in her own home is heartbreaking.
This is a very stressful time for this family so, if anyone is able to help out and make it a little easier by making a donation, it would be greatly appreciated.
