Hello, my name is Dawn, and I’m the proud mother of two amazing children — Gavin and Azalea.
We are reaching out with humility and hope to ask for help during a very difficult chapter in our lives.
Last October, we left our home in South Carolina and moved to Boston so Gavin could receive critical cancer treatment at **Boston Children’s Hospital**. We had to give up our new home back in South Carolina, so now we have nowhere to return to once Gavin’s treatment is complete.
Since arriving, we’ve been staying at **The Boston House**, which we are incredibly grateful for — it has given us a safe place close to the hospital. But our living space is just one very small room for the three of us, and it has been extremely difficult to live in such tight quarters for so long. We must move out by the **end of November**, but we have nowhere to go.
Right now, I’m unable to work a traditional job because Gavin requires constant care and frequent hospital visits. Still, I’ve been doing **DoorDash** and **Instacart** with my children in the car whenever I can, and I’ve been passing out business cards for a cleaning business I’m trying to start. Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten any clients yet, and the money I’ve been able to make isn’t nearly enough to secure housing.
On top of that, my children’s education is being affected. Because we don’t have a lease, the local school district will not allow us to enroll Azalea in first grade. Gavin can’t return to school in person until March or April, but having a home address would allow him to receive tutoring at home, and would allow Azalea to finally begin school this year. School here starts **August 25**, so our situation is urgent.
We are hoping to raise enough funds to secure safe, stable housing **anywhere in Massachusetts**, as long as it’s within about **an hour and a half from Boston Children’s Hospital**, so Gavin can remain close to his doctors while continuing treatment, and so both of my children can have some stability, space, and access to school.
Any donation — no matter how small — will help us take a step toward building that stability again. If you can’t give financially, please consider sharing our story.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping us in any way you can.
With gratitude,
**Dawn, Gavin, and Azalea** ❤️
