For the past 2 years, my husband has been the only true father our son, Hugo, has known. He has been the one who stayed. The one who showed up. The one who has loved, raised, protected, and cared for him every single day. In all the ways that matter, he is Dad. Now we’re trying to make that official through stepparent adoption, so our son can have the legal security and permanence he deserves. This process means giving our son the stability of knowing the father who has chosen him, loved him, and raised him will also be his legal father in every way.
