As a grandparent, there is nothing more important to us than seeing our grandson healthy, happy, and able to enjoy life. Watching him face medical challenges has been one of the hardest journeys our family has experienced. We are reaching out for support to help ease the financial burden of his ongoing care, treatments, and travel expenses. In 2024 , Nixon an amazing 15 year old had an emergency while on a school trip that required him to be hospitalized.

After many doctors appointments and testing Nixon was diagnosed as a high risk type 1 diabetic. Nixon is insulin dependent and his Pancreas does not create insulin and is also insulin resistant requiring more insulin then normal . He required many injections a day to stay alive and a insulin pump . Nixon does not produce signs of low /high blood sugar which makes him unaware of emergency high or low blood sugar levels. Which puts him at high risk for Hypoglycemia and Hyperglycemia. Nixon requires to wear 3 devices 24/7 that help monitor his blood levels.

After Nixon's first diagnosis he ended up hospitalized, with complications and a day away from a diabetic coma. Nixon and his mother have spent way to many days and nights in the hospital while learning how to deal with a huge change in lifestyle including classes to manage diabetes, dietary changes, this lifestyle change requires 24 hour management and care by them selves. Which requires time away from school for Nixon & time away from work for Sammie. Their life was flipped upside down.

From learning levels, injections, dietary needs, medications and the list goes on to Nixon having to under go surgeries.

Nixon has undergone multiple surgeries, while fighting type 1 Diabetes. Nixon is one of the most thoughtful, full of life kids with a huge heart, with a huge love for Music & cars .

He has fought so hard over these last couple years while managing diabetes and recovering from surgery after surgery. He is the strongest kid to go through so much at 16 and not ask for anything but to be a teenager.

As most know Nixons relationship with his mom is super close , they are 2 peas in a pod, always together side by side and he appreciates everything she does and knows it's hard on her but is so glad he has her as a support system.

Sammie is a fulltime mother , who provides fulltime care to Nixon. She handles everything household, medical , appointments, hospital trips and every test and injection , and sleepless nights in between. Sammie is not one to ever ask for help but always willing to give help to someone in need . Sammie takes on more then any parent should. Managing diabetes and 7 surgeries, recovery, appointments, injections and much more and Sammie smiles through every tough day fighting this disease head on.

She advocates for Nixon and all diabetics bringing awareness to the life long battle everyday. She works fulltime and is a fulltime caregiver for Nixon including all his medical care.

Now since March of 2025 Nixon has undergone 7 surgeries with his mom by his side every minute. Which comes with fulltime medical care , fulltime mom duties, and taking care of all things so Nixon can focus on healing while missing out on school and being a teenager. Unfortunately Sammie has had to step away from work while taking care of Nixon as he is recovering from surgery.

He has had back to back surgeries since March and will be having another surgery #8 soon. Which could require a 2 month stay close to the hospital to help Nixon during healing and recovery. During that period they will be away from home and work to get the medical treatment so hopefully Nixon will not need to have another surgery after #8.

This puts a lot of weight on Sammie financially, mentally, physically and emotionally. Nixons recovery has required constant travel to hospitals and appointments in the last year , specialist appointments,many medications, diabetic supplies ,wound supplies, special dietary needs and home care visits with lots of travel . Nixon currently requires medical care 7 days a week,traveling to appointments, along with ongoing medical monitoring, supplies, medications, and diabetic care needs. Which get very expensive.

Between the travel , hospital stays, transportation costs, fuel, hotel stays, food expenses, parking expenses, and household bills and diabetic supplies continuing to pile up while away for surgeries and recovering, the financial burden is too much for Sammie as a single mother. Sammie has always put every need of Nixon's in priority and never let him walk this battle alone, as his biggest supporter . She has given everything to being involved, supporting and balancing everything for Nixons medical needs.

This battle of T1D is Nixons life and take's a huge toll on them physically, emotionally, mentally and financially , no one should fight this alone!
