In September of 2018 John went to the dentist with what we thought was a simple toothache. Several x-rays, CT/PET scans, and MRI's, later revealed a mass in his right maxillary sinus. After months of seeing multiple doctors for what we thought was a sinus infection, turned out to be much more than that. In December, John had a biopsy of his sinus done in Nevada. Soon after, we sought help from the ENT team at the University of Utah and The Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City. Dr. Oakley moved quickly and obtained the results from the biopsy and informed us that John has Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), a cancer of the muscle tissue.
The tumor has begun to affect his vision, eating, and sleeping, and he is unable to work because of it. The good news we have received is that his most recent scans do not show that it has spread elsewhere. Dr. Oakley is looking to treat it with a combination of radiation and chemotherapy in hopes of eliminating the tumor completely. The outlook for treatment is between 6 months to a year.

In light of it all, we are happily awaiting the arrival of our second baby boy in June. John has always worked very hard for us which allowed me to stay home and care for our two-year-old, JT. Our income has taken quite a hit with him working sporadically since September to figure out what this was. We are starting this account to cover treatment expenses not only for him, but also for my continuing pregnancy, and other household expenses that are normally covered by his income. His work is through a union contract which does not cover medical leave, therefore leaving us ineligible to receive unemployment at this time.
John is an amazing husband and father and we never thought something like this would ever happen to us. He has always been healthy and we never anticipated the financial burden of an illness of this magnitude at such a young age. Although we continue to ask for prayers at this time, any donations would be very much appreciated. Please join us in this fight we have ahead of us so that he can continue to be there for us for many years to come.
