Meet Levin Sanai Jones, a vibrant 16-year-old whose life took an unexpected turn on February 1st. What began as a typical day for this passionate young woman quickly spiraled into a medical emergency when Levin suffered multiple seizures, leading to her hospitalization in the Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit (PIMCU).
After a series of tests, Levin was officially diagnosed with NMDA receptor encephalitis on February 13th, a rare neuroimmunologic disorder where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own brain neurons. This condition has caused inflammation in Levin's brain, putting a pause on her pursuing her dreams and goals. Just months away from what should have been a triumphant year graduating high school as a junior , Levin now faces an uncertain future filled with medical challenges.
Since her diagnosis, Levin has bravely endured her first line of treatment, IVIG, starting on February 3rd. She is set to begin her second line of treatment, Rituximab, on February 16th. The road ahead is daunting, as each case of NMDA encephalitis is unique and unpredictable, and doctors cannot yet determine Levin's prognosis.
Levin’s journey will likely involve an extended stay in the hospital, followed by rehabilitation to help her relearn how to walk and talk. Her family has been by her side, providing love and support during this difficult time, but the mounting medical expenses are overwhelming.
As many of you may know, Levin's mom is a former co-worker of ours from SPD, and we are reaching out to ask for your support. Your contributions, whether big or small, can make a significant difference in Levin’s life and help ease the financial burden on her family.
Together, we can help Levin regain her strength and chase her dreams once again. Please join us in supporting her journey toward healing and recovery. Your help would mean the world to Levin, her family, and all of us who care about her.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Let’s rally around Levin and show her that she’s not alone in this fight.
