Help Us Fight My Father’s Eviction By His Own Granddaughter
Donation protected
As many of you know, my oldest “daughter” is trying to evict my father from his life-long home. He is 74 years old, on a fixed income and will be homeless if she is successful.
The kicker is that the house he resides in belonged to him until he had his properties deeded to myself and my daughters many years ago. These were meant to be beneficiary deeds, passing the properties on to us at his passing. They were drawn up incorrectly and she and her husband now claim complete ownership to the property. In more recent years, once it was discovered that the deed had been done incorrectly, an amendment was signed by her, at a local attorney’s office, stating that he could live on the property until his passing. Not sure how she plans to get around that, but she is giving it her all.
Her husband has recently called the law on my father for “trespassing on private property” when he dared to mow the yard, and the following week, the eviction paperwork arrived. Later that same week, my daughter’s husband went to RCEC and attempted to have his electricity turned off…at the beginning of summer. These are just a few examples of the horrible disrespect and terrible treatment they are subjecting him to.
We are fighting this with all we have, but are already more than $2000 in with his attorney fees, and haven’t even made it to court yet. (They are also asking that my father pay their attorney fees and court costs!) There is a court date scheduled for September 5th. If we win, that’s the end. If we do not, there will be a second court date, meaning even more costs incurred.
My father has taken on a part-time job, because his social security alone is not enough to finance this battle. My husband and I are helping as best we can and have purchased a used fifth wheel camper just in case worst comes to worst and he is thrown out of his home.
He is a very proud man and would never ask for help, but I am a practical person and I know how many people have expressed their desire to help in any way they can, as this is simply so wrong. If you know the people involved, you know more details than I will share here…if you know a little and want to know more, message me and I will happily share. I can provide a copy of the eviction letter, the amendment signed stating he can live there forever and our attorney’s information, including my father’s account number there, so that donations can be sent directly to the attorney’s office. I am not seeking any donations that would go to myself or my dad.
Our attorney is James Lemon in Hannibal, MO and my dad’s account number there is #2852. If you would like to assist, you can contact their office and donate over the phone, or mail a check with that account number in the memo section.
Even the smallest amount can make a big difference. If you feel moved to make a donation, your kindness will never be forgotten.
In closing, I ask that you please do not mention this fundraiser to my dad. I feel like I am all he has left, but am afraid he’d be upset if he knew I was doing this, even though it’s in his best interest.
