On the 8th of November, we presented to the Emergency Department after noticing concerning changes in our precious 16-month-old daughter, Khloe Antonello. What started as a small bruise under her eye slowly worsened over three weeks, leading us to seek urgent medical help. What we thought would be a quick visit for answers turned into a nightmare no parent could ever prepare for. On the 9th of November, after multiple tests, Khloe was diagnosed with high-risk stage M neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer. In a single moment, our world completely shifted. Since that day, we have been admitted as an inpatient at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, praying over her little body and trusting God with every breath she takes.
Khloe has already completed her first 5-day cycle of chemotherapy. She has also required three blood transfusions so far, and may need more as her treatment continues. Even through all of this, she continues to show a strength and spirit far beyond her age. She is our fighter, our miracle, and we believe with all our hearts that God is holding her in His hands.
Her journey ahead is long and incredibly challenging. She will need:
• Multiple rounds of chemotherapy
• Intense high-dose chemotherapy
• Surgery
• Stem cell harvesting
• Stem cell transplant
• Radiotherapy
• Immunotherapy
• Multiple blood transfusions throughout treatment
As parents, our hearts are torn between long days in the hospital and caring for Khloe’s siblings at home. We are doing everything we can to stay strong for all our children, but this road is not easy.
Because one or both of us must be with Khloe throughout her treatment, it is unlikely that we will both be able to return to full-time work. At best, only one of us may be able to work, which places a heavy financial strain on our family. Before we reach the point where bills begin piling up and we fall into financial hardship, we are humbly asking for your help.
