Most of you reading this will know we have had a fatal case of EHV1 at Kingston Riding Centre. Since the diagnosis and with Veterinary support the yard has implemented strict biosecurity measures to safeguard the other horses and surrounding yards.
Now a week later there is evidence that this is being successful with no new fevers for 48 hours
However it's very expensive.
All the horses are having to be stabled 24 /7 which increases bedding and hay costs; all the staff are wearing disposable biosecurity suits and gloves that are changed between every horse. Buckets of powerful disinfectant are required. New equipment has been purchased to make sure each barn has their own forks and barrows so nothing is shared, thereby reducing the risk of cross infection. Because all the horses are stabled and all need temperatures taken twice a day staff costs have also increased.
Kingston Riding Centre have been extremely responsible and acted swiftly with the welfare of the whole community in mind, but this may go on for many weeks and its extremely costly to maintain.
Please , if you can spare a donation to enable the Yard to keep up this excellent practice, we would be extremely grateful
The staff and Management are working so hard to contain this, lets help them do it !
