In 2023, we decided that we couldn’t sit quietly amid a new wave of book banning that had been washing over the country. And while we weren’t able to organize marches or anything grand, we decided to focus on our direct community in Ogden, Utah, by building our own Little Free Library that tried to educate people about the perils of banning books from schools and public libraries, as well as try to be a place to access and read books that had been challenged or all-out banned. Thus, the Little Banned Book Library was born.

We were featured in the Ogden Standard-Examiner and even appeared on the KSL evening news ! Support from the community, both local and online, has been amazing.

I built the original LBBL out of mostly scrap wood that I had in my shed, and I’m still quite proud of it. But it’s showing its age all too soon and beginning to warp and leak. It is also a mere 12”x12”x12” inside and doesn’t fit oversized kids' books.

This is where GoFundMe comes in. We’d love to buy a larger library, but we don’t have a few hundred dollars to spare. So we are reaching out to our community for a helping hand.

Our goal is to purchase the Two Story Shed Unfinished Little Free Library from LittleFreeLibrary.org, which will allow more and larger books to fit inside.

We are aiming for $400 to cover the library, taxes, shipping, and paint. Anything collected beyond the $400 will be used to buy more banned/challenged books to keep it better stocked.
