Greetings and salutations frems! We're The Collective and Commune Love
We recently discovered our apt has dangerous black mold! We of course contacted our apt complex, and they are letting us move to another unit.
However, they are trying to say it isn't mold. We have a company coming out on Thanksgiving to test. We also had a home inspector test and they said it's mold.
The apt they moved us into also appears to have mold in the ventilation. They cleaned it but we are of course worried of it returning. We need mold remediation on our belongings so we don't have longterm exposure even after moving. And of course the apt complex doesn't want to pay.
We only have til Monday to move without any warning or preparation. We don't have boxes so we've just been taking handfuls of stuff up the stairs. We can only be in the apt for short periods of time bc you can feel and smell the mold in the air (even with a mask on) and it is widely affecting our health. Our partner Commune has been coughing up black chunks that we're pretty sure is mold.
We are worried for our health and the health of everyone in our apt building. Multiple tenants have stated they have mold problems and it's affecting their health as well. At least four tenants are immunocompromised (us 2 included). And there are 2 families with small children that we are terrified are getting exposed through shared ventilation system.
The apt complex is refusing to help with the move or with medical or lost wages from all of this. We want to get a lawyer to help us enforce the Safe Housing Act 2024 because by law they should be doing more. We reached out to a local news station and are waiting to hear back from them.
We need help. Desperately. We've already lost 3 days of work. We need to get Commune to the doctor to get tested for mold poisoning. It's making them lose vision interstitially. I'm been having blinding migraines. No one can really help us move bc we don't want anyone else to get sick from this. And we don't want to keep exposing ourself to get our belongings. We don't know what to do.
We are scared, in pain, and completely overwhelmed. We need help. So we're putting this out into the universe. May it reach those that may be able to help.
Thank you for thinking of us, for keeping us in your hearts. If you can help in any way please know we are truly appreciative and grateful.
We see you.
We love you.
You matter!!after!!!
Love,
Jade from The Collective
