Help Us End the Shark Fin Trade in Florida

Tax deductible
Many people know that shark finning is a terrible and unsustainable practice, but few people know that Florida is the hub of the shark fin trade in the US. The good news is that we are doing something about it—Shark Allies has been working on laying the groundwork for legislation that would end the fin trade once and for all in the State of Florida, which is a critical step in ending the practice in the United States (12 US States and 3 Territories have made the shark fin trade illegal). The Shark Allies Team has been building a powerful campaign over the last year called #NoFinFL, resulting in the introduction of two bills in the Florida State Legislature (HB401 and SB680). Florida, now it's your turn, but we need YOUR help to continue this fight!

All we need is a little contribution by many to help us make this a success story and push through the end of the legislative session! Please engage with this campaign, forward, promote and get your network of friends to help. We are all in this together.

As many as 73 million sharks per year to satisfy the fin trade. This cruel and unsustainable trade has been the main factor in the massive decline of our ocean’s most important apex predator. Help us save these beautiful creatures before it’s too late.

The Shocking Statistics:
- In the amount of time it takes an average person to read this message, 6,000+ sharks will die.
- It is estimated that 70-100 million sharks are taken for the fin trade every year.
- Finning is the equivalent to killing elephants for their ivory, or rhinos for their horns. Many shark species will face extinction if we don’t stop overfishing.
- Some shark species have declined by as much as 90% in the last decade, largely due to the high demand for shark fins.
- The act of “finning” means the fins are cut off of sharks, often while they are still alive. The carcass is tossed back into the sea.
