With your support, we can resolve conflicts, restore land, and create new realities around the world
- Rivers around the world are drying up. Putting the water back in the rivers seems impossible.
- We are losing species at a rapid rate. Birds are disappearing. Butterflies are disappearing. Saving the birds and butterflies seems impossible.
- People are fighting each other. City folks versus country folks. Environmentalists versus developers. Farmers versus fishers. Communities suffer. Healing communities seems impossible.
We ask, “If it were possible to resolve these problems, what would we do”
- With your help, we can heal the soil so the rain soaks in, recharges groundwater, and restores water basins.
- As we all work together to heal the soil, we can increase plant diversity to feed the birds, butterflies, and many other critters.
- As our communities work together to heal the soil, increase plant diversity, and feed the birds and butterflies, we can create peaceful spaces to listen and learn together with respect and heal our communities.
We’re starting now! And you can help with your gift today.
We are starting in one small place, Adobe Farm, Belén, New Mexico, in the Rio Grande Valley, USA. With your support, we will build from there.
About Adobe Farm
Twelve years ago, Jeff and Myrna Goebel bought the two acres that are now Adobe Farm. The land was in rough shape. The ground was bare. The rain did not soak in. There were few birds or butterflies because there was no food or shelter for them.
- They planted trees to make shade and wind protection.
- They planted native plants to feed and shelter the birds, butterflies, and other critters.
- They borrowed goats to eat the weeds and fertilize the soil with their manure.
- They invited folks to come and learn how to regenerate soil and bring back species diversity.
It worked!
- This year a Western tanager stopped by for a visit. Monarch butterflies and hummingbirds fed on dozens of species of native wildflowers.
- The soil is getting healthier every year. Rain soaks in to water the plants and recharge the groundwater.
- Visitors learned how to heal their own land.
- Jeff is sharing with many folks how to listen with respect and heal their communities.
You can help make the impossible possible
Jeff has worked around the world to help communities do what they believed was impossible: resolve conflicts and restore land.
- On the Colville Reservation, Washington State, Jeff helped Tribal Council members reach 100% agreement to reduce the annual budget by 29% without cutting jobs or salaries. The Natural Resource Department doubled its annual land treatment to increase fire resilience and address insect and disease problems, while reducing their budget by 6%.
- In Mali, West Africa, seven ethnic groups speaking four languages had a history of severe food insecurity and violent conflict. With Jeff’s help they increased food production by 78% in 18 months. Later research showed the violent conflict completely disappeared from the region based on study two years after Jeff’s work
- On Hana Ranch, Maui, Hawaiʻi, the paniolos (Hawaiʻian cowboys) were frustrated, the community was angry, the land was deteriorating, and the ranch was losing $750,000/year. With Jeff’s help, within 15 months the paniolos built a strong team, community relationships healed, finances were solid, and land, water, and animal health was restored.
- In the Deschutes Basin, Oregon, Jeff's helped increase collaboration between farmers, ranchers, and the Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation. The result: Summer flows in Whychus Creek went from 0 cubic feet per second (cfs) to about 30 cfs.
Jeff and Myrna have done the impossible on Adobe Farm’s two acres. Now we’re ready to help them expand. We want to use Adobe Farm as a learning and healing center.
We are working with Jeff and Myrna to build an organization that will spread this work far beyond Belén, New Mexico, and the Rio Grande Valley as they build out this vision for a learning and healing community at Adobe Farm.
With your help, we will create a learning community at Adobe Farm and learning communities around the world. We want to share these ideas with people around the world, including with you and your community. People can to use these learnings to heal rivers, lands, and communities where they are. Including your place.
With your support, we can make the impossible possible. Without your support, we can’t.
We reached our second fundraising goal of $6,500. A big thank you to our donors. Our new goal is $8,000. This will help Jeff and Myrna continue their work at Adobe Farm through January, 2027. And it gets us closer to our total goal of $46,150. Your gift of $50, $100, $500, or, if you can $1,000, will help Jeff and our team continue the work of doing the impossible. Every gift will get us closer to the impossible.
With your help, we can create our best possible outcomes for the land, the rivers, the birds and butterflies, and our communities. Without your help, these dreams may be impossible.
Whether you can donate now or not, please share our GoFundMe with your friends and folks you know. That will make a big difference, too.
Thank you for helping make the impossible possible.
All the funds raised here will go directly to Jeff and Myrna Goebel and Adobe Farm to support their vision for a learning and healing center.
This GoFundMe is sponsored by Jeff's friend and colleague Melinda McBride (Lynnwood, WA, USA) and Friends of Adobe Farm (Elaine Cornick
in Bend, OR, USA; Cindy Eiritz, Australia; and many more friends and colleagues).
