Dear Friends,
My name is Kate Pacelli, a parent at Capon Bridge Elementary School. I'm excited to be helping transform our school grounds into an inspiring resource that supports learning and health.
The Wild & Wonderful Schoolyard (WWSY) is a dream shared by
educators, parents, students, and community members.
Imagine a schoolyard where:
Learning comes alive! Outdoor classrooms, linked by a trail, will provide hands-on experiences in nature, reducing stress, improving health, and enhancing creativity and learning.
Every child has access to nature. Gardens, paths, shaded seating, and engaging learning stations will foster a deeper connection to the natural world.
The community thrives. The schoolyard will be a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy exercise, educational signage, and natural beauty after school hours.
What is an Outdoor Classroom?
Each distinct, themed, outdoor area will complement the curriculum or health goals. Each may include:
Gardens: Where students learn about growing food and the importance of healthy eating.
Paths: For exploring and observing the natural world.
Shaded seating: Providing a comfortable space for learning, observation, and relaxation.
Educational stations: Featuring interactive elements that spark curiosity and encourage exploration.
Storage for tools and materials: Keeping everything organized and easily accessible.
Free play space: Allowing children to explore their imaginations and develop important social and physical skills.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will help us build our newest outdoor classroom- The Friendship Garden! Your support will help us purchase: benches, raised cutting gardens, shade structures, stone patio, "word walk" path and a big storyteller's chair.
Thank you for your generosity and support!
*All donations are tax-deductible.
Sincerely,
Kate Pacelli
