Hi! No one ever wakes up thinking, "Today's the day I'll have to ask the public for help," but unfortunately, today is that day for us. My daughter, Elena (8), is on the Autism Spectrum with severe cognitive delays. She is a wanderer and unfortunately also a destroyer. I have locks on everything and take every precaution to try to keep her safe, but it's not enough. I've applied for a safety bed through insurance for years and was denied over and over and over. Last year, she was finally approved for a Safety Sleeper. It felt like a miracle at the time. A year in, we are realizing that it's just not sturdy enough. She has ripped through the seams and can easily flip it over when not in it, which is destroying everything else. My goal is to be able to build her one from scratch that is not only sturdy, but better equipped to her specific needs. To pay out of pocket for the original safety bed I applied for, it's $9,990. After talking to several people who build things for a living, they expect materials to cost around $1,500-$2,000 to build a safe and effective bed.
