Help Us Make “Acting Family” — A Funny, Tender Short Film About Loneliness, Performance, and Found Family
Logline: When diagnosed with brain cancer, an old man hires a struggling playwright to assemble an “acting family” for his funeral. Under the playwright's direction and the old man's last wishes, the fake relatives stumble into something real—forcing everyone to confront what it means to belong, to perform, and to care.
We’re raising $30,000 to produce Acting Family, a character-driven short that blends dark comedy and heartfelt drama.
We believe that this is an important story to tell.
How your donation will be used ($30,000 goal)
Production crew meals and day rates for those who help us bring these stories to life.
Camera & lighting rental (hospital interiors, exterior garden, office, and casting room space).
Locations, permits, insurance: hospital sets, casting rooms, and outdoor garden shoots.
Production design & wardrobe (the notebook, props, costumes that tell character stories).
Post-production: editing, sound design, color, and festival submission fees.
Contingency & festival push: to help the film reach audiences after completion.
Every contribution matters. Beyond deep gratitude, sponsors and larger donors will be offered recognition and perks such as credits (associate producer, sponsor), behind-the-scenes updates and photos, early digital screener access, and invitations to a virtual premiere/Q&A. (If you’re interested in sponsorship packages, we’ll happily discuss tailored promotional benefits.)
Why we need you
Independent films live and die by the people who believe in them. This is a small, urgent story with a big emotional reach. Exactly the kind of film that finds life at festivals, sparks conversations, and connects with audiences long after the credits roll. Your support funds a professional shoot, a safe and healthy work environment, and the chance to get this film in front of viewers who will care about Mr. Kash and the family he creates.
We’re so grateful for anything you can give—$5, $50, or $500. If you can’t donate, sharing the campaign and what we're trying to accomplish would mean the world. Thank you!
With gratitude,
Crew of Acting Family and Lana Colaco (Director and Writer)
