Help us cover some of my mom's accident expenses

Hi, my name is Carolina Torrejon, and I am raising funds to help cover the expenses we have had (hospital, hotels, plane tickets, food, etc.) due to an accident my mom had in San Francisco this past Thursday. As many of you know, my mom was visiting the US after three years of not seeing each other because of COVID. We were extremely excited to see each other again and planned a fun trip together, driving from AZ to CA. While in San Francisco, my mom had an accident (she fell from a set of stairs) and broke both her feet. She was immediately taken to the hospital, where they told us she had one fracture in her left ankle and three on her right. As you can imagine, the doctor let us know she needed surgery to correct the most compromised foot. Still, due to the financial burden and the lack of post-operatory care she would have here in the US, it has been decided it's on her best inrerest to travel back to Chile where she could get the procedure done.

After a few days in the hospital here in SF, we had a horrible situation happened with a miscommunication between the intern doctor and the surgeon. She had the medical clearance to fly this past Sunday, May 1st but the surgeon decided at the last minute (one hour before we went to the airport) that she was in no condition to fly, so we had to stay here in San Francisco for a couple of more days. You can imagine the frustration and issues this caused because we have already bought a ticket on American Airlines who refuses now to reiumburse my credit card which means we can only buy a ticket with them this next week. This poses a problem in itself because her travel insurance only approved a certain amount for the flight, and if the tickets are more expensive than that, we won't have the freedom to choose another airline due to my credit card being already charged.

My mom has an appointment tomorrow Thursday, May 5th and we are hoping she gets the medical clearance she needs to fly to Chile this upcoming weekend. The whole situation has cause tremendous pain, stress and uncertainty, particularly because we are not people who are made of money. She is retired and I am a PhD student here in the US. Because of our prolonged stay and her hospitalization, we have found ourselves economically struggling to keep up with the bills; the insurance she has most likely won't be enough to cover all those days in the hospital and we have had other expenses that we were not expecting as food, medicine, transportation of my mom (who is in a wheelchair now) to and from the doctor's office/airport, plane ticket, etc.

We are not people who usually rely on others to solve their issues, but we are definetely in need of some financial support so the impact is not that huge.
