My name is Maria Isabel Sanchez and I am starting this GoFundMe on behalf of my grandmother, my mom and her siblings who live in Ecuador as we find ourselves dealing with a medical family emergency with my grandmother.

Her name is Esperanza Plaza. For many years, she has been the role model of strength and resilience for all of us in the family. Widow for many years, she never wavered and gave up on life. In exchange for her courage, life has given her many years to share with us and watch all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren grow.

Her name means HOPE in Spanish, and in this difficult moment, hope is what we need the most to face the most difficult challenge we have had as a family.

For many years, my grandma has been living with a tumor on her neck. No doctor wanted to operate as none saw an immediate need since the tumor was benign. As the tumor grew over the years, pushing outward on one side of her neck, more and more complications to her physical and mental health have arisen.

In the last couple of weeks, the tumor, once pushing outward only has begun to work its way inward, causing pain and asphyxia. This has prompted several emergency hospital visits, including one due to Lymphedema on 11/8/24.

On 11/9/24, she had to be rushed again to the hospital as her tumor is clogging her airways and she is slowly suffocating. Doctors will be performing an emergency surgery on 11/12/24, and as a family, we must do what it takes to give my grandmother a chance to live a dignified life.

This surgery is very costly, and we are short of the money required to pay for all medical expenses including doctors' fees and hospital stay, once the surgery is completed. For this reason, I am reaching out to the community for help in this dire moment. Anything will help and we will be eternally grateful for helping us.

Mi nombre es María Isabel Sánchez y estoy iniciando esta colecta de GoFundMe en favor de mi abuelita, mi mami y sus hermanos que viven en Ecuador, dado que estamos afrontando una emergencia familiar con mi abuelita.

Su nombre es Esperanza Plaza. Por muchos años, ella ha sido el modelo de fortaleza y resiliencia para todos nosotros en la familia. Viuda desde hace muchos años, ella jamás ha flaqueado ni se ha rendido. A cambio de su valentía, la vida le ha dado muchos años para compartirlos con nosotros y ver crecer a todos sus hijos, nietos y bisnietos.

Su nombre ejemplifica aquello que necesitamos más que nunca en este difícil momento para encarar lo que es el reto más difícil que hemos tenido que superar como familia.

Por muchos años, mi abuelita ha vivido con un tumor en su cuello. Ningún doctor ha querido operarla dado que nadie vio una necesidad inmediata al ser este un tumor de tipo benigno. Conforme el tumor creció con el paso de los años, presionando hacia adelante a un costado de su cuello, han surgido más y más complicaciones a su salud física y mental.

En las dos últimas semanas, el tumor que una vez solo se pronunciaba hacia afuera, ha comenzado a encontrar su camino hacia adentro, causando dolor y asfixia. Esto ha derivado en varias visitas de emergencia al hospital, incluida una por linfedema el 8 de noviembre de 2024.

El 9 de noviembre de 2024, hubo que llevarla de emergencia nuevamente al hospital dado que el tumor está obstruyendo sus vías respiratorias y, a paso lento, la está sofocando. Los doctores van a realizar una cirugía de emergencia el 12 de noviembre de 2024 y, como familia, debemos hacer lo que sea necesario para darle a mi abuelita la oportunidad de tener una vida digna.

Esta cirugía es muy costosa, y no nos alcanza para cubrir todos los gastos médicos que incluyen las tarifas de médicos y hospitalización una vez que se haya realizado la cirugía. Por esta razón, pido ayuda a la comunidad para que nos tiendan una mano en estos momentos tan difíciles. Cualquier contribución nos ayuda y por ella les estaremos eternamente agradecidos.
