Many of you already know Luna’s story, which started tragically. We rescued this beautiful (and chatty!) 6-month-old kitten on the cusp of Montreal's first winter storm, abandoned and taking shelter under some stairs on a busy street. She had 2/3 of one of her back legs – an "old" injury that had healed incorrectly – and thus had no movement in it except at the hip.

The vet told us that the leg needs to come off in order to give Luna the best quality of life. In the three weeks before her leg amputation surgery, she would play or get scared and hit the tip of her stump on the floor. It bled some, she cried out in pain and then ran off to hide. She's a healthy girl overall but she still has needed veterinarian care to get her to the safe place she is in now.

We didn't intend to be caretakers of another cat (we have three!), and we have found the vet bills to add up. We are therefore humbly asking our friends and family if they would like to help cover the costs of her care.

Here is the breakdown of Luna's veterinarian care:
• complete physical exam, including of her leg
• Tests for FIV – the feline equivalent of HIV – and leukemia (results were negative)
• medication for ear mites
• microchip in case she ever gets lost
• two rounds of standard vaccines
• surgery to amputate her injured leg so that she can move freely and without fear of pain
• post-operative medications, such as painkillers, antibiotics, and anti-inflammatories
• a spay procedure so that she cannot have kittens

Altogether, we have absorbed around $3,500.

We’ve set up this fundraiser in hopes that we can recoup $1,750 of those costs. Ours will remain Luna's forever home, and we will provide a loving and stable family for her adult life.

If you’d like to help us to cover the costs of saving a very special animal, we would be incredibly grateful. Thank you so much in advance for contributing to her cause! ❤️
