Hi, and thank you so much for taking the time to read our story.
I’m a Peritoneal Dialysis patient, and as part of managing my health I rely on a dialysis machine that runs around 8 hours a night, 5 nights a week. This life-saving treatment has significantly increased our household electricity usage, placing a heavy financial strain on our family.
We have been approved for the Solar PV Scheme as a medically vulnerable person, which we are incredibly grateful for. However, before the solar panels can be installed, our home must undergo a mandatory electrical “Tails Upgrade” — and unfortunately, this work is not covered under the Medically Vulnerable Scheme.
Why We’re Fundraising
The Tails Upgrade is a required safety and compliance upgrade. Without it, the solar panel system cannot be connected or installed.
The total cost of this work is approximately €2,500, which we are struggling to fund alongside ongoing medical, household, and energy costs.
Budget Breakdown
The funds raised will go directly toward the required electrical works and associated fees:
• Electrical Tails Upgrade (cabling, earthing & bonding checks/upgrades): €2,300
• ESB Networks meter connection fee: €200
Total needed: €2,500
These costs must be paid before the solar installation can proceed.
Why This Matters So Much
Running dialysis at home has dramatically increased our electricity bills. Installing solar panels would:
• Help offset the high energy usage required for dialysis
• Reduce ongoing electricity costs
• Ease financial pressure on our family
• Provide greater stability and peace of mind while managing a long-term medical condition
This upgrade isn’t a luxury, it’s an essential step toward making our home more sustainable and medically manageable.
How You Can Help
Any donation, no matter how small, would mean so much to us. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page is just as valuable and deeply appreciated.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support during a very challenging time for our family.
