Off-Topic Scotland is dedicated to hosting the hard conversations relating to the continuing drive for Scottish independence.
We aim to complement the many online voices presenting the economic, cultural and constitutional cases.
After a 3-month trial period (June-August 2023) during which we published over 30 blog posts, conducted numerous polls via Twitter/'X' and featured guest articles from a variety of independence activists and investigative journalists, we are confident that there is a place for OTS in the expanding online discourse.
We've acquired over 4,000 website users and 30,000 page-views for the website. On X/Twitter we have nearly 800 followers and have garnered 120,000 impressions. Our email newsletter has over 100 subscribers, and we routinely get 45 - 50% open-rate.
Our costs are modest. The website design required an initial investment of £1,750 from personal funds and the monthly hosting + maintenance is £60.
With two 'staff' (we have full-time jobs and do OTS in our own time) we estimate that an average of 15-20 hours per week is spent on writing/editing the site and promoting it via Twitter/'X'.
If we 'pay' ourselves £10 per hour (for 17.5 hours weekly shared between us) that amounts to £9,100 per year. Adding the initial website design fee and monthly maintenance, we arrive at the target of £11,570.
We really want to work on this project long into the future - any donations would help us cover costs while we figure out a model for long-term monetization.
Thank you for all your support!
